New criminal laws

BNS, BNSS and BSA are now in force

Since 1 July 2024 the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act have been replaced by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA). Section numbers have changed — an FIR, bail application or petition must cite the correct law for the date of the offence.
